Consistency Over Perfection: A Self-Care Conversation with Bonnie Langedijk

Bonnie Langedijk launched HURS to reimagine the women’s media landscape, creating a platform that celebrates modern aesthetics, intelligent storytelling, and authentic community. HURS is for women who see the world differently—those who connect through style, art, design, and culture.

Growing up in the Netherlands, creativity was part of Bonnie’s DNA. With parents in advertising, she was raised on big ideas and sharp storytelling, learning early how to think critically about the media around her. Frustrated by how little women’s media had evolved, she envisioned something better: a space where women could find connection, inspiration, and fresh perspectives.

HURS launched in 2022 as that space. Rooted in Bonnie’s deep understanding of today’s woman, it’s a platform that challenges conventions, ignites conversations, and builds a true community for the modern aesthete.

In this interview, she shares how a consistent routine—grounded in movement, mindfulness, and digital boundaries—helps her navigate the demands of building a modern media platform. Reflecting on everything from cooking to curiosity, Bonnie offers a thoughtful look at how intentional rituals shape both her personal well-being and her creative vision.

AS: What are some self-care practices that you find most benefit your work & creative output?

BL: There are two main self-care practices that ground me: meditation or some type of stillness and movement, whether that’s a workout or just a walk in nature...and sleep. Without rest it’s hard to think straight.

AS: In what ways do you nurture your mental and emotional health to maintain creativity and inspiration?

BL: It’s a process. When your work and your personal life are closely intertwined, it can be hard to find balance. I do my best to create moments of stillness or movement throughout my day. Moving away from the work often helps to put things in perspective, and allows you to look at things differently.

What you feed yourself is extremely important too. In terms of what you eat. I never eat in front of my laptop, but also in terms of what you consume digitally. The less time I spend scrolling on my phone unintentionally, the better I feel.

IT’S OKAY TO SIT WITH YOUR FEELINGS AND BE FRUSTRATED OR DISAPPOINTED FOR A FEW HOURS, AS LONG AS YOU SNAP OUT OF IT AT ONE POINT.- Bonnie Langedijk

AS: What practices or routines do you incorporate into your daily life to support your work while maintaining your creative energy and mental well-being?

BL: I thrive when I have a specific routine. As my work is dynamic and always moving, I enjoy having consistency in other parts of my life. I move my body five times a week, usually a mix of Pilates, Barre and strength training. I walk at least 10.000 steps every day and I meditate and journal in the mornings. To some, it might sound like a lot but it allows me to show up for myself everyday in a way that isn’t focused on output or productivity.

I also love cooking, and mostly cook at home throughout the week. It’s such a great way to unwind, and be creative in a way that’s more playful.

AS: How do you handle setbacks or challenges in your creative endeavours while still prioritizing your well-being?

BL: For me, the best thing is to put things in perspective. It often helps to talk to someone, write your frustrations down, or distract yourself by doing something completely unrelated to work. It’s also okay to sit with your feelings and be frustrated or disappointed for a few hours, as long as you snap out of it at one point. My mom used to say: Everything will be okay. Even if it’s not okay, it will be. And I think that’s a great way to look at life in general.

AS: What specific environment or settings do you find especially conducive to both self-care and creative inspiration?

BL: I’ve always been a curious person and feel most inspired when I’m learning and exploring. Traveling, reading, visiting galleries and museums and walking are all ways to expand my knowledge. I find while I’m within these settings I always get new ideas and perspectives.

AS: Best self-care advice you have received?

BL: Consistency over perfection.
